Scroll Co-founder Haichen: The launch of the Mainnet marks a new starting point, with the ecosystem focusing on practical applications.

Scroll, as an open-source Layer 2 solution led by Asian entrepreneurs, has always attracted significant attention in the industry. After two years of intensive development and one year of testing, Scroll officially launched its Mainnet on October 10, 2023. As of October 27, the total value locked on the Scroll chain has exceeded $19.3 million, with the number of Mainnet wallet addresses surpassing 147,000, and the total number of verified transactions exceeding 860,000.

Recently, Scroll held the ETH Hong Kong event at Cyberport in Hong Kong, which is the first event organized by the Ethereum community in Hong Kong. During the event, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen was interviewed and shared his views on the development of Scroll and the Layer2 ecosystem.

Exclusive Interview with Scroll Co-founder Haichen: The Mainnet Launch is a New Beginning, with More Focus on Real-World Applications

Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone for Scroll and marks a new starting point. After long-term testing and security optimization, users can now bridge assets from Ethereum to Scroll and use various applications. In the future, Scroll will continue to roll out more features to further enhance security, reduce user fees, and provide more tools for developers to support the development of innovative applications.

Regarding Scroll's choice of zkEVM-based zkRollup solutions, Haichen explained that zk technology can provide users with stronger security guarantees and a better user experience. Scroll places special emphasis on EVM equivalence, which allows developers to use Ethereum's development tools directly without the need to install new plugins, reducing development difficulty and potential risks.

In terms of technical details, Scroll writes zero-knowledge proof circuits in a way that is closest to EVM, and the number of supported precompiled contracts is also the largest. Moreover, Scroll's sequencer is based on Go-Ethereum, providing strong compatibility for users and developers.

When it comes to ecological development, Haichen stated that Scroll will first focus on infrastructure service support, such as RPC, indexing, cross-chain bridges, and oracles. Following this, there will be a wave of DeFi application deployments. In the long term, Scroll is committed to building an open and neutral platform that treats projects of all sizes equally. In particular, Scroll will pay more attention to real-world application projects, such as stablecoin payments and AA wallet projects, as well as public goods projects that benefit ecological development.

Regarding the competition and development of the Layer 2 ecosystem, Haichen believes that the entire industry is still in its infancy. The challenges that need to be addressed in the future include improving the level of decentralization, enhancing security, and attracting more developers to create innovative projects. He emphasized that the Layer 2 market is not a zero-sum game, but rather an ecosystem that can continue to expand.
