Getting Started with Scroll zkEVM

This article will introduce beginners to how to interact with L2 Dapps, using Scroll zkEVM as an example. We will demonstrate the entire process using an on-chain tic-tac-toe game running on the Scroll L2 network. These skills are also applicable to other layer two networks.

Preparation: Install Wallet

If you have already installed a wallet (such as Metamask), you can skip this step. Otherwise, please install the appropriate wallet version based on your device.

Step 1: Configure the Test Network

Scroll zkEVM has currently launched its alpha testnet, which is a Layer 2 network compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). It is connected to the Ethereum Goerli testnet, which means the Scroll L2 network will send batched transactions to the Goerli L1 network for final confirmation.

To set up the Scroll L2 network, please visit the official Scroll website and follow the instructions to add the network to your wallet. Also, make sure that the Goerli test network has been added to your wallet.

Step 2: Obtain Test Coins

After setting up the network, you need to obtain some Goerli test ETH. There are multiple faucets available, each with different features and limitations. You can choose one or more faucets based on your needs to obtain enough test ETH.

Step 3: Cross-chain transfer ETH to Scroll L2

After obtaining Goerli test ETH, the next step is to transfer some ETH to the Scroll L2 testnet. Visit the cross-chain bridge interface of Scroll and follow the on-screen instructions to transfer ETH to your address on the Scroll L2 testnet. Please note that this process may take some time to complete.

Step 4: Experience the On-Chain Tic-Tac-Toe Game

Once your ETH is successfully transferred to Scroll L2, you can start experiencing the on-chain tic-tac-toe game. Visit the game webpage and connect your wallet. This is a multiplayer game, and you need to add another player's address; you can also use your other wallet address as an opponent.

After creating a new game, select your game from the game list to start. This game also has an interesting feature: if you make a mistake at any step or do not want to lose the game, you can reset the game at any time.
