ETH crosses into 10 million institutional holdings, has decentralization become "Wall Street-ified"?
The narrative around Ethereum is becoming increasingly fantastical: originally touted as a "decentralized world computer," it is now officially controlled by reserve companies and ETFs, with cumulative holdings surpassing 10 million ETH! This maneuver, in any light, seems a bit like "you can play with decentralization, but we'll take the chips."
The market interpretation is straightforward: this indicates that institutions recognize the value of ETH and are willing to treat it as a long-term asset to hold. It is important to know how many meetings and risk control reports are needed for the traditional financial community to reach a consensus. The fact that they collectively decided to buy in is, in itself, the greatest endorsement of ETH.
But the problem arises: will the dream of decentralization become "Wall Street-ified" due to high institutional holdings? As price, liquidity, and narrative gradually come under the control of ETFs, ETH may lose some of its grassroots feel.
Of course, from another perspective, institutionalization does not equal "loss of control," but rather ETH has entered a more mature financial ecosystem. Retail investors can feel more at ease from now on, as the bull market no longer relies on meme trading, but on the risk control departments of Wall Street. It’s quite surreal to think that Ethereum has to rely on investment banks' endorsement to achieve a decentralized future.
