The Ronin project will migrate to the Arbitrum Orbit chain to create a gamified engine for Ethereum.
[Coin World] A new proposal suggests building Ronin L2 as an Arbitrum Orbit chain, as the Ronin team plans to migrate the game chain to a fully mature, Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 by 2026. According to the proposal, Arbitrum ( ARB ) has unique advantages to assist Ronin ( RON ), as this L2 aims to return to Ethereum ( ETH ). Since Arbitrum has a dedicated web 3 gaming venture capital department, the proposal to build Ronin as an L2 on the Orbit chain means that Arbitrum will not only be a technical partner.
Arbitrum Orbit on-chain Ronin L2 will be supported by RON and backed by Arbitrum Gaming Ventures. This initiative will enable Ronin to benefit from native support for RON as a gas token, transaction speed, customizability, and autonomy, as well as optimized validator fee revenue. Notably, Arbitrum Orbit is the only L2 stack on Ethereum that provides native support for all four ecosystem functionalities without hacks, workarounds, or reduced upgradeability.
This means that Ronin users will have the opportunity to leverage the advantages of Arbitrum's L2, such as instant trading and community support for games. In this case, L2 will also accelerate Ronin's adoption of web3 games. This could lead to greater integration across the entire Ethereum ecosystem. The native Ronin token RON will also benefit, with its use being enhanced across the entire L2 network.
Ronin was launched in 2021 as a layer-1 blockchain, developed by Sky Mavis, aimed at addressing the scalability challenges of Axie Infinity (AXS). This blockchain went live with a proof-of-authority consensus model before transitioning to delegated proof-of-stake in 2023.
This EVM-compatible chain supports various tools aimed at helping game developers and integrates ecosystem solutions such as Chainlink's cross-chain interoperability protocol for secure and cross-chain token transfers. Ronin also supports cross-chain non-fungible tokens and decentralized finance applications. Recent network developments include the launch of Open Ronin through Project Leviosa, which helps push the blockchain beyond its game-centric model into a platform supporting DeFi, infrastructure, and consumer application smart contracts. The Ronin team recently stated that the transition to L2 on Ethereum is part of the mission to become "the gamified engine of Ethereum."
