On August 2, according to AXIOS, senior White House economist Stephen Miran stated that an important economic statistical agency needs a "new perspective," but he did not repeat President Trump’s claim that Friday’s employment data was politically manipulated. Trump ordered the dismissal of the head of the Labor Statistics Bureau (the agency that releases US Non-farm Payrolls (NFP)) on Friday, after he claimed without evidence that the disappointing employment data was "manipulated." The agency later confirmed that Director Erika McEntarfer was dismissed, and her deputy William Wiatrowski will serve as acting director. The July employment report released earlier on Friday showed that only 73,000 jobs were added last month. The Labor Statistics Bureau also announced a significant revision of data, indicating that the number of jobs was a total of 258,000 less than previously thought. This is the second-largest downward revision over two months on record, second only to the adjustments made during the pandemic. Trump previously stated: "(US Non-farm Payrolls (NFP)) employment data is manipulated to embarrass Republicans and me—just like before and after the 2024 presidential election."
