A person with HIV in France achieves 'functional cure'.
On January 18, Jinshi data reported that a French media outlet reported on the 17th that a person infected with HIV and suffering from leukemia in the country achieved "functional cure" after undergoing a bone marrow transplant, which is the first case in France. A woman in her 60s in the southern city of Marseille was diagnosed with HIV in 1999 and has been undergoing antiretroviral therapy since then. In 2020, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and underwent a bone marrow transplant in the same year. After the surgery, the leukemia condition was relieved, but she continued to receive antiretroviral therapy for nearly 3 years. During this time, multiple virus tests were negative. In 2023, she stopped antiretroviral therapy, and subsequent virus tests remained negative. "We can now call this a case of relief and potential cure of HIV infection, this is the first case in France and the eighth case globally," said an article published on the official website of Saint Margaret Hospital.
